I know, I know. Shocking.

A recall petition against Mayor-President Sid Edwards was delivered to the Registrar of Voters without enough signatures to trigger a special election, an organizer said.

The initial recall, issued in Feb. 2026, claimed East Baton Rouge Parish residents have lost confidence in Edwards. Nearly 50,000 people would have to sign the petition to put the matter before voters.

The recall was chaired by Aaron Banks and Marian Gbaiwon.

“Although we did not get the number is signatures required to trigger a special ejection election for the EBR Mayor-President, this fight is far from over,” Gbaiwon posted on Facebook.

Gbaiwon also organized two recall petitions for Governor Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill.

As we’ve posted in the past, recalls are always a waste of time as a means of getting rid of politicians you don’t like. They aren’t a waste of time for other purposes. For example, if you’re trying to identify and evaluate political activists or organizers, get them involved in a recall effort and see how they do outside of the high-stakes environment of an election campaign where you’re running real candidates, and if they’re good at the recall block-and-tackle, you can move them into elective politics.

But that isn’t really the purpose Marian Gbaiwon is pushing with the recalls of every Republican politician she’s heard of.

She’s obviously building lists of people she can monetize. That’s why watching her Facebook has been such a hoot over the past few months – she publicly loses her mind over anybody else trying to get involved at a high level in that recall, and she won’t stop insisting that this is her project.

You don’t do it that way if your purpose is to get things done. If you’re actually trying to force a recall election, you suck in as much help and as much money as you can, and if that means you need to step aside so that heavier hitters can take over what you’ve built and move it to the next level you do that.

Insisting that this is your project and they all have to get in behind you, because you’re the one with all the sweat equity in it? That’s what you do when you want to own the list and sell it to all the spammers you can find.

Which we warned the dumb leftists who signed the Jeff Landry petition was coming.

Almost nobody signed the Sid Edwards recall. Because there is no reason to recall Sid Edwards. All things considered he’s been a pleasant surprise for a guy who’d never held political office before, he’s about as consummate a diplomat as there is, and he’s begun cleaning up some things which have gone to seed over the past 20 years. Has he definitively solved any of Baton Rouge’s major problems? Not really, but if you thought that was doable after the mess Sharon Broome left him you might not have the most realistic of expectations. Crime is down, population is up and Baton Rouge is now America’s leader in construction jobs – which is a pretty good indication  East Baton Rouge Parish’s economy is popping.

Trying to recall that guy is ridiculous. When you realize the same grifter who just spectacularly failed in the Edwards recall is the one at the heart of the Landry and Murrill petitions, the picture gets pretty clear.

This isn’t really what you’d expect to see from a successful recall organizer. “Unserious” is more apt as a description.

So now we’ve had the Sid Edwards thing collapse, and pretty soon the Landry and Murrill petitions will fail as well.
