The Republican Party of Louisiana has endorsed State Sen. Blake Miguez in the open primary for the U.S. House seat in Louisiana’s 6th Congressional District, signaling that the Republican Party sees the 44-year-old lawmaker as not only the candidate who best reflects conservative Republican values, but as a leader in the future of the state party. The LAGOP Executive Committee cast its traditional endorsement vote after a majority of Republican State Central Committee members representing the 6th Congressional District signed letters supporting his candidacy.

It is crystal clear why Blake Miguez stands out as the choice for Republicans with an eye toward the future of Louisiana. He represents a new generation of conservative leadership forged not in good old boy politics but through years of building a business, fighting legislative battles and delivering conservative victories. At just 44 years old, Miguez brings the experience of a seasoned lawmaker with the energy, conviction and conservative record to help shape Louisiana Republican politics for decades to come.

He is a seventh-generation son of Louisiana, with Spanish and French family roots that go back generations in parishes throughout our great state beginning in the mid-1700s. He moved to Baton Rouge in 1999 to attend LSU, earning his undergraduate degree in 2004. He attended Southern University Law Center where he earned his juris doctorate degree while clerking for two years in the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office.

Blake had spent much of his young life learning his family’s oil and gas business in New Iberia and helped expand operations into Baton Rouge where the business still exists today. He turned that experience into a firsthand understanding of what it takes to meet a payroll, create jobs and navigate the burdens government placed on American businesses.

Public service brought Blake to the Capitol building when he decided to run for the Louisiana House in a 2015 special election. He won the seat with 93 percent of the vote, serving nine years in the House and showing great leadership in the fight against the John Bel Edwards COVID lockdowns. Blake was elected House Republican Majority Leader during his final term in that chamber and became a founding member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus.

Blake was elected to the State Senate in the 2023 primary election, garnering 54 percent of the vote against four other candidates making the runoff unnecessary. In his years as a legislator, Blake has authored Constitutional Amendments that were passed by the people of Louisiana including constitutional carry of firearms and a ban on foreign money being used in our elections. He authored bills signed into law that have included bans on sanctuary cities and barring ranked choice voting in Louisiana, work requirements for SNAP benefits, and even mandatory reporting to ICE of anyone who does not meet citizenship requirements when they apply for state benefits.

From LSU student and law degree to businessman, House Republican leader and state senator, Blake Miguez has spent over twenty-five years of his life studying, working in and serving in Baton Rouge.
