KOENIG: Honoring a Free Speech Hero in Louisiana

As many may know, the free speech rights of Louisiana citizens have been under assault in recent years.

Two years ago, Louisiana AG Jeff Landry and Missouri AG Eric Schmitt filed suit against the Biden administration for colluding with Big Tech companies to censor social media users–including Louisiana residents (i.e. the Missouri v. Biden case).

Then last year, Trump appointed-US District Court judge Terry Doughty made an important ruling that protected the free speech rights of Louisiana residents. Judge Doughty issued an injunction last year that prevented the Federal Government officials from contacting social media companies concerning censorship.

Here is how Scott McKay explained Doughty’s ruling in an article from The American Spectator last year:

Because, on Tuesday, fittingly enough, Doughty issued a nationwide injunction against the Biden administration in the case of Missouri v. Biden, a lawsuit filed over the federal government’s forced collusion with Big Tech companies to censor and suppress public discussion of several key issues of interest to vast swaths of the population.

Fortunately, social media censorship has finally relented in the past year for a variety of factors—such as Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, which he has since rebranded as X. However, Judge Doughty’s important ruling was one of the major turning points in the battle against the censorship of conservative voices on social media platforms.

Next week, the Home Defense Foundation group in the greater New Orleans area plans to honor Judge Doughty for his commitment to free speech. Therefore, Judge Terry Doughty will become the 1st recipient of the Frederick Douglass Freedom of Speech award during a celebratory luncheon next week. The award luncheon is open to the public, although an RSVP is recommended.

Some political observers believe that Judge Doughty is potentially on President Trump’s shortlist for a higher judicial seat—such as the US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. So, you won’t want to miss this event next week in Metairie.

Louisiana patriots should thank Judge Doughty for protecting our Constitutional rights, and our state is in a better place with a constitutionalist judge like him protecting Louisiana’s sovereignty in recent years.
