If you’ve read for The Hayride for a while, then you probably know that Congressman Troy Carter (LA-2) is one of Louisiana’s most notorious “Louisiana last” elected officials. Over the past three years, Troy Carter has supported the interests of criminals, illegal aliens, and the Biden administration as a member of the US House of Representatives.
You don’t have to take my word for it. Based on Carter’s voting record, Heritage Action for America rated Troy Carter as one of the most far-left members of Congress over the past two Congresses (117th and 118th).
Some of Troy Carter’s worst votes show that he supported illegal aliens voting in American elections (SAVE Act, 2024), the disastrous Inflation Reduction Act (HR 5376, 2022), gun control (HR 1808, 2022) , unlimited abortion in America (HR 3755, 2022), and sending hundreds of billions of American tax dollars to corrupt foreign countries (HR 8035, 2024).
What’s worse, Troy Carter has publicly stated that he supported the political persecution of President Trump and the January 6th protestors. For years, Carter has repeated the Regime-approved slander of President Trump and his supporters.
Similarly, Congressman Carter has shared anti-police, pro-crime, and anti-white messages online. So, Carter is fairly open and honest about his radical views. Yet, supposedly “conservative” Republican politicians still seem to brush away these inconvenient facts about Troy Carter.
Yesterday, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill made the following tone-deaf post on her social media accounts about her meeting with Troy Carter:
Yes, you read that post correctly. Our state’s Trump-endorsed, supposedly “conservative” Republican Attorney General is openly praising an anti-Trump, anti-“Louisiana First” US Congressman for his “commitment” to his constituents.
It’s customary for politicians to put on a show of bipartisanship, of course. The problem is that with Carter, it’s all one way. His vote against the Laken Riley Act last week, for example, should have earned him a stiff-arm from Murrill. We aren’t getting better behavior from these people until we start punishing bad behavior.
Especially given the results Troy Carter is presiding over.
Let’s not forget that over 600 murders, over 1000 nonfatal shootings, and over 1100 armed robberies have taken place in New Orleans in the last three years under Troy Carter’s watch. Let’s not forget all of the incendiary comments that Troy Carter has made about the 60% of Louisiana voters who supported President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. Let’s not forget about all of the terrible legislation that Troy Carter supported that made our lives worse over the past few years.
This disappointing photo-op is just one example of the worrying stances that Liz Murrill has taken recently as Attorney General—including her weak defense of free speech rights and her support for banning Tik Tok.
Of course, Liz Murrill has helped clean up the rampant crime in the city of New Orleans. No one can fault her for the solid job that she and Governor Landry have done in fixing some of the long-standing issues in New Orleans.
However, we cannot fix New Orleans and Louisiana if Republicans officials continue to embrace inept politicians like Troy Carter. Our state deserves better than Republicans who pal around with radical Democratic pols like Troy Carter and company.
