It’s in the Gulf. An LSU marine scientist, Mark Benfield, workin’ with a submersible owned by one of the oil companies – y’know, the ones who hate the environment? – got it on camera.
This one was about eight feet long, but supposedly they can grow to 50 feet long. How that’s the case is a good question, since this is the first time anybody’s recorded a live one on camera. They’ve been seen before when they’ve washed up on beaches, though, and those critters have often been 20 feet long or more.
To catch ’em in their natural environment, you gotta go 500 feet deep at least – and most of the time way more than that…
