Landry Pulls State Party Endorsement In 3rd District Race

From a release this afternoon by the Louisiana Republican Party, Jeff Landry has secured the state party endorsement over Hunt Downer in the runoff election Oct. 2 for the GOP nomination in the 3rd Congressional District race:

“The Republican Party of Louisiana urges Republicans in the Third Congressional District to unite behind the candidacy of Jeff Landry in the election for Congress,” said Republican Party of Louisiana Chairman Roger Villere.  “This is a very important seat and could conceivably provide the deciding vote to unseat Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.”

On Saturday, Mr. Landry was a mere 162 votes short of officially claiming Republican Party’s nomination when he earned 49.6% of the vote in a three-person field.

The Republican Party of Louisiana now joins the majority of Republican Party leaders in the Third District, the Tea Party of Louisiana and the Republican voters of District 3 in supporting Jeff Landry.

“I extend my thanks to Hunt Downer and Kristian Magar, two honorable men who have served their country with distinction, for running such spirited campaigns,” said Villere. “I salute both of them and look forward to working with them in the future. It is now time to unite behind Jeff Landry to defeat our well-financed liberal opponent who will be a rubber stamp for Obama and Pelosi.”

Let's see if Hunt drops out now, or will he continue to show everyone that it's all about Hunt.

Hunt Downer is the only credible candidate in this race. Republicans need to look beyond the Tea Party-driven primary process and look to November. Much of what Landry has been saying in his commercials are half-truths and whole lies. Republicans can do better. Wasn't Landry the campaign manager for the ill-fated Craig Romero run last time around?

  • Not R long enough

I don't feel I can vote for Landry. I wasn't always a Republican. I'm much older than him, so I remember what it was like to not be able to vote Republican. We all were Democrats and I don't thinkk he realizes what he's saying when he is so negative to those of us who haven't been Republicans long enough in his eyes. I don't have a problem with Downer having been a Democrat. I was, too. I do have a problem with someone who is so quick to judge, especially for things he obviously is too young or too stupid to understand.

I liked Landry when I first met him. I have been disgusted by his attacks on Hunt. I too was a democrat and switched at about the same time as Hunt did. What kind of message does this send to potential democrats who are thinking about coming over and who have seen the light ? Not a good one.

I will vote for a republican in the general election. I hate the thought of holding my nose to do it.

His "attacks" on Downer are references to his liberal voting history and performance as a Democrat for the past thirty years. There is nothing wrong with pointing out a candidate's voting record, unless you're someone like Downer who's afraid of it being brought to light.
