Barone is rarely wrong and, in general, he isn’t, this time. However, to suggest that Daniels should consider jumping back in is silly – too Ross Perot and a rather boring one, at that. McCotter, although visually akin to Daniels, is infinitely more interesting and quick-witted.
That opined, not having been in the fray, officially, either Ryan or Christie could alter course without much criticism - the perception of being a self-sacrificing knight in shining armor. At the risk of being redundant, though, if Christie is the one to don the armor, we’ll have to remember Haley Barbour’s words: “Purity is the enemy of victory.”
