Congratulations To President Obama On A Major Policy Success
Don’t be so shocked. Hope and Change works just fine.
It solved the problem of illegal immigration, after all…
A four-decade tidal wave of Mexican immigration to the United States has receded, causing a historic shift in migration patterns as more Mexicans appear to be leaving the United States for Mexico than the other way around, according to a report from the Pew Hispanic Center.
It looks to be the first reversal in the trend since the Depression, and experts say that a declining Mexican birthrate and other factors may make it permanent.
The Mexican birthrate is definitely dropping, and this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the folks who study demographics. It was inevitable that a decline in new Mexicans would produce a similar decline in Mexicans migrating to the United States.
That said, when the Bush administration started taking steps to enforce immigration laws in the middle part of the last decade a rather steep decline in the illegal immigrant issue began, and it has dropped off quite a bit since then.
But since our current president took office illegal immigration is now at the lowest point since the Great Depression. It’s so pronounced that more Mexicans are leaving this country than coming in.
The lesson being that if you want to stop illegal immigration from Mexico, you don’t need biometric ID cards, you don’t need a beefed-up Border Patrol and you don’t need a fence. All you need to do is to tank the American economy to such a colossal extent that there are no jobs for Mexicans to do here, and they’ll give up and go home.
Voila! No more illegal immigration problem.
Of course, the American labor participation rate has tanked as well, so it’s not just Mexicans who can’t find jobs here – it’s pretty much everybody and less and less are even trying.
But that’s a small price to pay if you’re Obama – because he’s the man who solved the illegal immigration problem.
Four more years of Obama, and the Mexicans will be griping about the illegal gringos sneaking south into their country.
