VIDEO: Is The Cajun John Wayne Thinking About Running For Congress?

We have been hearing persistent rumors that former St. Landry Sheriff’s Department spokesman, Captain Clay Higgins, was considering a run for Congress in the 3rd District. The seat is being vacated by Congressman Charles Boustany, who is running for the U.S. Senate.

Higgins resigned under pressure in March from the St. Landry Sheriff’s Department over a video he made about gang members. But before then, he had become known as the “Cajun John Wayne” due to his tough talking “most wanted” TV segments for his office and Crimestoppers.

Today, we received this video of Captain Higgins in our inbox which adds fire to those rumors.

The video, titled “America United”, is a manifesto of sorts by Higgins, who is wearing his reserve Lafayette City Marshal’s uniform. It urges Americans to come together and fight to save the nation from “grave danger.” He blasts “career politicians” and “elitists” for serving their own interests while running up the debt, making America weaker, and overflowing prisons.

The video itself is over 5 minutes long, which is way too long. This video should’ve been 2 minutes, tops. I tuned out after about 2:30.

If Higgins runs, it appears that his style is going to be that of an Acadiana version of Donald Trump. However, we’re not sure there’s going to be a market for that. Scott Angelle is pretty folksy himself. Retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel Greg Ellison has the military background. Erick Kuzniak and Gus Rantz are both self-made businessmen. Finally, if you want a crazy liberal pretending to be conservative, Brett Geymann is your guy.

We just don’t see this happening for Clay Higgins. This video doesn’t help his cause either.
