I-10 Is Shut Down Once Again Due To A Shooting

This weekend it happened again. A shooting forced the closure of I-1o in New Orleans. This time, among those shot was a child.

From WDSU:

Three people were injured, including a 7-year-old child, when a car was shot at Sunday afternoon on Interstate 10 in New Orleans East.

New Orleans police said the shooting was reported before 5:30 p.m. on the interstate at Read Boulevard.

Officials said four people were in a car on the interstate when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire, officials said. Investigators said the victims who were shot were a man, a woman and a 7-year-old boy, who was shot in the leg.

One of the passengers was not injured, police said.

Investigators said the car the victims were in veered off the road through fencing and stopped in the 7100 block of Barrington Court. Paramedics arrived and took the victims to a hospital for treatment.

No suspects have been named in the shooting. This is the most recent of a series of attacks that have forced the closure of I-10 in New Orleans East. If a city cannot secure its main thoroughfares, it will bring commerce to a halt as truckers and other will seek to avoid the dangerous routes.

At this point, it has to be assumed that there is a serial shooter at work here. There are just too many coincidences between the various attacks on I-10 in New Orleans East for these attacks to be random.

These are attacks are also a symptom of a lack of police presence in New Orleans East. The thinking of Mitch Landrieu was that crime could just confine itself there while the rest of the city was safe. After all, if poor black people were the ones killing each other it could be ignored.

New Orleans remains a dangerous city. It’s so dangerous that it is now shutting down interstates.
