Alexander: In God We Trust

As a nation, we have turned to God in times of challenge, tragedy and triumph as a source of strength, sustenance and wisdom. The motto “In God We Trust” is an indispensable symbol of our nation’s foundation of faith. Because of the prevalence of faith not only in American history, but also in all individuals’ lives, it is important to attest and pronounce “In God We Trust” as the motto of our nation.

I am proud to be an original cosponsor of H.Con.Res. 13, which reaffirms “In God We Trust” as our nation’s official motto. This legislation also encourages and supports the motto’s public display in all public buildings, public schools and additional government institutions.  H.Con.Res. 13 passed the House on November 1, 2011 with my full support.

Many individuals in Congress and across America were willing to fight for the correct representation of our nation’s rich religious heritage. This positive ending was the direct result of these efforts.

I depend on God’s guidance every day, and do not take liberties, such as the freedom of religion and the freedom of speech, lightly. These rights are in the very groundwork the United States was built upon, and I will always continue to support and safeguard these freedoms.

U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, represents Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District and serves on the House Appropriations Committee. He is also a member of the Congressional Prayer Caucus.
