Landry Lands FreedomWorks Endorsement

Not exactly earth-shaking news, since Jeff is the very definition of a Tea Party Favorite congressman, and FreedomWorks is about as Tea Party an organization as you’ll find. Nevertheless, it’s a significant development in the Landry-Boustany race, which will be this fall’s political main event in Louisiana.

The release, which went out this evening…

FreedomWorks PAC Endorses Jeff Landry for Congress in Louisiana’s 3rd District

Washington, DC- FreedomWorks PAC has announced its official endorsement of Jeff Landry for Congress in Louisiana’s 3rd District. After a thorough review of the candidates in the race, and after receiving input from members in the district, FreedomWorks PAC believes Jeff Landry is the clear choice for limited-government voters looking to preserve economic freedom and rein in Washington’s out-of-control spending.

Redistricting has forced conservative Congressman Landry into a primary battle against TARP-supporting moderate, Congressman Charles Boustany.  FreedomWorks PAC received feedback from hundreds of local grassroots activists, who overwhelmingly concluded that Landry is the one true conservative in the race.

FreedomWorks PAC Executive Director Max Pappas commented, “Recognizing the fiscal conservative in this race is easy. Congressman Landry was one of only three Members of Congress who received a perfect score on FreedomWorks’ Congressional scorecard in 2011.  Meanwhile, Congressman Boustany voted with House leadership against the spending cuts needed to eliminate our nation’s fifteen trillion dollar debt.”

Congressman Landry is an active member of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), the group for conservative members of the House, and is also a member of the Tea Party Caucus.  Boustany has not affiliated himself with any such conservative group.

Pappas continued, “With every vote, Jeff Landry stayed committed to what he was sent to Congress to do – preserve our country’s economic freedom.  In contrast, Boustany voted against billions of dollars of spending cuts, and voted to allow the nation’s largest debt ceiling increase ever in exchange for a failed ‘super-commission.”  The voting records say it all – we need more Congressmen like Jeff Landry to hold the leaders of both parties accountable for their reckless spending.”

FreedomWorks PAC is a grassroots service center for over 1.6 million activists nationwide dedicated to fighting for lower taxes, less government, and more freedom in every Congressional district in America.  For more information about the PAC, please visit www.FreedomWorksPAC.org. Landry is considered by the conventional wisdom to be something of an underdog in the race, and it appears that Boustany will have more money to spend. But so far the freshman from New Iberia has shown himself to be a surprisingly strong campaigner with a penchant for getting free publicity and capitalizing on it. That’s not really Boustany’s style, and considering that the 3rd District covers Southwest Louisiana, where there’s a tradition of rewarding the candidate with the biggest personality and the best showmanship, it’s an advantage Landry brings to the table which could be trouble.

In any event, this will be a great race to watch. It might be even more interesting if a Democrat gets in.
