Chronicling the crime and murders in New Orleans East is a full-time job that Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s administration would rather not talk about. Instead, they would rather discuss climate change with Pope Francis and talk about Confederacy-related monuments.
Luckily, we’ve got the latest round of tragedies out of New Orleans East that seem to go ignored. Here’s what is going down in Eastern New Orleans this week:
August 1: The NOPD is investigating a shooting that occurred “somewhere in New Orleans East” after an 18 year-old walked into the New Orleans East hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
August 2: Two male gunmen approached a woman and three teenagers near the 8700 block of Dinkins Street. The group of four was robbed at gunpoint by the men and carjacked. The car was later found by the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), but descriptions of the gunmen are not available.
August 2: Apparently a group of teenagers stole a school bus in New Orleans East. See all the photos from the incident here.
August 4: A 12-year old girl near the 7000 block of Lawrence Road was sexually assaulted by men. According to the NOPD, there is not description of the men yet and there is not an exact amount yet of how many men were involved.
August 4: The NOPD are looking for a man who allegedly broke into a New Orleans East home on the 9300 block of Morrison Road in Little Woods subdivision and poured bleach on everything. The man apparently chased a woman and her children out of the home and proceeded to pour bleach on furniture and household electronics.
