New Orleans is no longer the only sanctuary city for illegal immigrants in the state of Louisiana.
Now, along with 40 other new sanctuary cities, Lafayette Parish has been classified as an area in the state where illegal immigrants are welcome without Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) stepping in.
In a new map outlining 41 new sanctuary cities in just 4 months in the country, Lafayette Parish is cited as not honoring “ICE detainer without judicial probable cause or court order.”
Essentially, this means that Lafayette Parish will not listen to ICE officials on how to go about dealing with illegal immigrants. Apparently, Lafayette Parish declined advisement from ICE on illegal immigrants in January and September of 2014.

The city of New Orleans is the most high-profile sanctuary city in the state, with orders to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) that directly contradict or exclude advisement from ICE officials.
