FBI Confirms There Will Be ‘Unprecedented’ Amount Of Security For New Orleans Mardi Gras This Year

Not only has violent crime become an issue for tourists visiting New Orleans for the Mardi Gras season, but now, national security threats and terrorism are playing a role.

An FBI official confirmed with the Associated Press that there will be an “unprecedented” amount of security this year for Mardi Gras, including ramped up surveillance cameras and advanced technology to counter threats and danger.

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), which has about 1,100 officers on its force, will once again be aided this year by 17o Louisiana State Troopers. Additionally, there will be 100 FBI agents involved in keeping Mardi Gras 2016 safe, as well as neighboring parishes police forces.

The Massachusetts State Police are currently helping to provide training based on their efforts following the 2013 ‘Boston Bombing’ Islamic terrorist attack.
