Louisiana ranked No. 29 among the 50 states and District of Columbia in the percentage of its homeowners planning to pull up stakes in the coming months, according to an analysis of mortgage data by ATTOM Data Solutions.
The ATTOM Data second-quarter pre-mover housing index is based on information from loan applications on residential transactions involving single-family homes and condominiums in the state. An index exceeding 100 means the state will likely see a higher rate of home sales within its borders in the third quarter than the national average.
Louisiana, whose residents own more than 1.1 million homes, had a second-quarter pre-mover index of 86, up 5 percent from Q2 2017, when the index stood at 82.
“A higher pre-mover index bodes well for local real estate agents, home improvement stores, moving companies and others that benefit from the halo effect of a home sale,” said Daren Blomquist, senior vice president at ATTOM Data Solutions.
The data doesn’t necessarily mean that those planning to relocate are leaving the state, according to ATTOM Data.
