CNN’s ratings have been suffering, likely for a number of reasons. One rather prominent reason is due to how the network is constantly in the crosshairs of the president. “Fake News” is repeatedly addressed by Trump, and CNN commonly is featured as a go-to reference. It is important for reasoning to not stop there though, as the president is not just aimlessly targeting a particular agency. CNN deserves the consideration that they have earned the president’s attention. According to CNN founder Ted Turner, the network is suffering due to the lack of a “balanced agenda.”

“I think they’re sticking with politics a little too much,” Turner said in his interview. “They’d do better to have a more balanced agenda. But that’s, you know, just one person’s opinion.”

The founder is rather humble in suggesting he is just one person. All perspectives are certainly not equal on the matter, and his opinion, if any, ought to be worth a little bit more weight. His analysis correlates well the amount of criticism they receive from the current administration and American viewers in general. The reason why they are slumping in the ratings demands some kind of explanation. Their heavy political bias against an administration that has achieved real, measurable success in a number of ways is likely one of the best explanations available.

It is important to note the tragedy that has befallen Mr Turner. “The former CNN head honcho also revealed that he’s suffering from Lewy body dementia, a form of the disease that steadily gets worse over time,” Free Beacon reports. This tragedy, while incredibly unfortunate, cannot be overlooked as having a possible effect on the mind. His comments could thus be interpreted in a number of ways as being a response to his condition.

Some might dismiss Turner’s analysis as not being based off of a healthy cognitive state, and thus cannot be interpreted as well founded. Others might take his speaking out as perhaps an erosion of some kind of preventative filter that had previously kept him from criticizing his intellectual creation of CNN. However, it remains just as likely that his analysis is honest and genuine and is not tied to his condition.

Turner acknowledges that his illness is “a mild case of what people have as Alzheimer’s. It’s similar to that. But not nearly as bad.” Despite what caused the network’s founder to come out with criticism, the reality remains that CNN is failing. This demands an explanation, and Turner is not alone in his proposal. What the agency is currently doing is clearly not optimal, and continues to invite these kinds of remarks.
