Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats continue to refuse allowing a vote on the House floor on the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would “prohibit a health care practitioner from failing to exercise the proper degree of care in the case of a child who survives an abortion or attempted abortion.”

Last Friday, House Democrats refused to allow a vote on the bill for the 41st time. They read the same statement they have read the previous 40 times, claiming no bipartisan support exists vote on the bill.

The request came from Congressman John Rose, R-Tenn., who offered the unanimous consent request be allowed for a vote, which Democrats denied. They also cut off his microphone so he could not object to the decision.

Rose tweeted after Democrats blocked the anti-infanticide bill:

“Today, Democrats tried to silence us yet again as I urged a vote on the #BornAliveAct. They can silence our microphones, but they can never silence our voices in speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

Days earlier, Democrats voted to fund infanticide. Congressman Tom Cole, R-Oklahoma, proposed an amendment in committee to the bill, which would withhold funds from any medical entity that does not provide medical care to any infant born from a botched abortion. Every Republican on the committee voted for it; every Democrat, except Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar, voted against it.

In April, Republican Whip Steve Scalise and Representative Ann Wagner introduced a discharge petition to force Pelosi to schedule a vote on the bill. To date, 200 members have signed, including three Democrats.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Washington, explained, that despite the Democrats having the majority in the House, “One way that we can bring a bill to the floor is to demand a discharge petition. You have to get 218 people to sign a discharge petition, and then you can bypass Speaker Nancy Pelosi and bring the bill directly to the floor. We’re working actively on that right now.”

According to a national survey conducted by the non-partisan polling firm YouGov, in partnership with Americans United for Life (AUL), a vast majority oppose late term abortion and infanticide.

Among them, 80 percent of those polled oppose abortion the day before a child is born; 79 percent oppose abortion in the third trimester, and 82 percent oppose infanticide– removing medical care for a viable child after birth.

The poll also found that the majority of pro-choice respondents polled oppose late-term abortion and infanticide. Among them, 68 percent oppose abortion the day before a child is born, 66 percent oppose abortion in the third trimester, and 77 oppose removing medical care for a viable child.

According to the survey, 53 percent of those polled identify as pro-choice and 47 percent identified as pro-life.
