St. Tammany Parish’s $3,215-per-month cost of living is the highest in Louisiana

Residents of St. Tammany Parish need to make $3,215 every month to maintain a modest standard of living, making it the most expensive place to live in Louisiana, according to a new analysis by 24/7 Wall St.

The report examines the counties in every state that are the most expensive by using The Economic Policy Institute’s Family Budget Calculator. The calculator determines total local cost of living, like housing, food, health care, transportation and other necessities.

The biggest expense was the monthly housing cost of $758, with the median household income in the region standing at $66,539. The 2018 jobless rate in St. Tammany Parish was 4.2.

The 24/7 Wall St. analysis ranked counties by estimating the cost of living for a single adult resident to have a modest quality of life.

Counties in each state that ranked the most expensive to live in tended to have strong economies, low jobless rates and higher household incomes, the study notes.
