2020 VISION: Four Years Ago Today, LSU Crushed Oklahoma

In the spirit of our stroll down memory lane circa the end of 2019 and into 2020, the latest  installment in the series reminds LSU fans of the prelude to the Peach Bowl semifinal showdown with Jalen Hurts-led Oklahoma. The Hayride preview was written on December 27, but I figured I’d run it today considering the magnitude of the anniversary.

Current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 493 yards and set a school record with eight total touchdowns, and Minnesota Vikings star Jordan Jefferson outshone teammate and Biletnikoff winner Ja’Marr Chase with a ridiculous 14-catch, 227-yard, four-touchdown day.

The LSU offense rolled to 692 total yards.

We could go on and on with the stats, but you get the picture. It was total domination, and a resounding affirmation of the article Hayride ran in anticipation of the showdown.

In hopes that LSU will return to the CFP sooner rather than later, we remember four years ago today: Tigers 63, Sooners 28.

PLAY TO WIN: LSU Should–SHOULD–Win Over Oklahoma

There is an old adage in sports, which pops up often when an underdog team defeats the favorite, that “that’s why you play the game.”

Then-head coach of the New York Jets Herman Edwards famously and emphatically said back in 2002, “You play to win the game.”
