KOENIG: Illegal Alien Crime Shocks Louisiana

A recent wave of illegal alien crime has shocked Louisiana and America as a whole. Louisiana citizens are paying the price from the disastrous “open border” policies of the Biden administration over the past three years, and a tragic incident in Kenner last month highlighted this reality.

Illegal alien crime is no longer confined to border states and sanctuary cities. Illegal alien crime is here in Louisiana, and our state’s elected officials cannot hide from it anymore.

Last week, the Kenner Police Department announced the arrest of an illegal alien in Kenner for multiple crimes. This illegal alien from Honduras allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl at knifepoint and stabbed an adult man.

This savage entered our state illegally thanks to the federal government’s “open borders” policy and allegedly committed some of the most heinous crimes imaginable.

These horrible crimes in Kenner made national headlines on Fox News, Daily Mail, The Washington Times, Townhall, and more amid a national outcry over illegal alien crime. The incident in Kenner occurred within a week of the brutal murder of college student Laken Riley in Georgia.

What’s more, President Trump even referenced the alleged crimes in Kenner during a recent speech in Eagle Pass, Texas.

Thankfully, the Kenner Police Department stopped this illegal alien’s violent rampage by arresting him. However, this case is not an isolated incident. As I have pointed out previously on The Hayride, Louisiana has suffered from an influx of illegal alien crime in recent years–from drug-smuggling to rape to other assorted crimes.

Sadly, immigration is under the jurisdiction of the federal government. So, the federal government’s disastrous immigration policies are heavily burdening our state and local authorities here in Louisiana.

I reached out to Kenner Chief of Police Keith Conley about the situation in Kenner surrounding illegal alien crime, and he graciously provided the following words:

“I am disgusted by the situation local law enforcement is in for the failed policies of the federal government in dealing with migrants coming into this country. The resources, man power and finances, expended dealing with this situation is crippling to our communities. We need help! We need change!”

Our state is already burdened with crime. Louisiana is already one of the most violent states in the nation, and the last thing we need is more illegal alien crime here in Louisiana.

Louisiana must get a handle on illegal alien crime. We cannot depend on the federal government to fix the immigration issue anytime soon.

No one is coming to save Louisiana but ourselves.

Next week, the Louisiana Legislature is set to meet for its regular session on March 11th. In this session, it has the opportunity to pass legislation tackling illegal immigration, and it is my hope that our legislators seriously consider this major issue.

Our state legislature made a strong push in the past special session to promote public safety via sensible, tough-on-crime legislation. Now, it’s time to take on illegal immigration and the burden that this issue is having on public safety, the economy, and public services.
