Louisiana Prisoner Moved To Oklahoma To Await Capital Punishment; You Can Thank Trump

A man who was serving in federal prison in Louisiana is now in Oklahoma to await execution later this year, but only because Donald Trump won last year’s presidential election.

That man, George John Hanson, was convicted of murdering an elderly woman 25 years ago.

This is according to a statement earlier this week from Oklahoma Attorney General Genter Drummond.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections transferred Hanson from a Louisiana federal prison to the Oklahoma State penitentiary.

“Hanson, also known as John Fitzgerald Hanson, and an accomplice carjacked and kidnapped Mary Bowles from a Tulsa shopping mall in 1999 before shooting the 77-year-old woman to death at an isolated dirt pit near Owasso. Hanson’s accomplice then killed Jerald Max Thurman, who was at the scene and witnessed the crime,” according to the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office.

“Although a Tulsa County jury sentenced Hanson to death, he had been in federal prison in Louisiana serving a separate life sentence for bank robbery.”

Drummond thanked U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. The Bureau of Prisons allowed Hanson’s transfer …”after the State of Oklahoma had been previously blocked by the Biden Administration, which “inexplicably protected this vicious killer from the execution chamber.”

Drummond said he requested the transfer on Jan. 23. That’s the same week that Trump issued an executive order “to ensure that the laws that authorize capital punishment are respected and faithfully implemented, and to counteract the politicians and judges who subvert the law by obstructing and preventing the execution of capital sentences.”

The Attorney General’s Office is expected to ask the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals to schedule Hanson for execution later this year.

Former President Joe Biden and members of his administration seemed to want to protect convicted killers from capital punishment.

Biden, two days before Christmas, announced he would commute the sentences of 37 of the 40 individuals on federal death row to life sentences without the possibility of parole.

“These commutations are consistent with the moratorium my Administration has imposed on federal executions, in cases other than terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder,” Biden said in a statement.

“Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts and ache for all of the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss.” Biden said at the time that he was now “more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level.”
