And Now, The First Inevitable Propaganda Poll Of The Louisiana Senate Race

It’s inevitable that you’re going to see this bandied about, probably into next week, with all the story lines about how Julia Letlow is in trouble and the Democrats have a real chance to flip Bill Cassidy’s Senate seat. This is the Executive Director of the Louisiana Democrat Party, in case you don’t know who Dadrius C. Lanus JD (gotta stick that JD in there!) is.

This is a survey from Public Policy Polling, a Democrat polling firm with an absolutely abysmal track record of doing something which is bog-standard in Democrat politics. Namely, you do push-polling to drive a result which is nothing like reality, and then you put it out there to create an impression you’re competitive in a race you aren’t competitive in.

And you do this so that you can bamboozle donors into throwing money at your race.

In this case, it’s actually amusing, because the Democrats don’t have any money for Jamie Davis. They’re extremely short-stacked compared to the GOP in this cycle – down 2-1 or even 3-1 in war chest size among the various entities across the parties nationally. So they’re going to have to spend very wisely in order to pick off the four Senate seats they’ll need to take over the majority.

Along comes the Louisiana Democrat Party and Davis’ campaign to run a Public Policy Polling survey out there which has Davis below 40 percent – not a good number, because if he isn’t getting every single Democrat voter right now, as torqued up as Democrats have been about, well, everything, he’s screwed – and suppresses Letlow’s vote into the “not sures.” And now they’re going to fundraise off this poll, while the national Dems will watch money they’re going to need in Michigan, Texas, Georgia, Maine and some other places where there are real races will come down here.

And what’s going to be even more amusing – assuming this works, which you shouldn’t – is that when the DNC and the DSCC start trying to suppress the money going to Davis, somebody – I nominate Gary Chambers, but there will almost certainly be others – will flop the race card down and say it’s because Ken Martin and Chuck Schumer won’t support black people that Jamie Davis isn’t getting any money.

Oh, but wait – Dadrius C. Lanus JD (gotta stick that JD in there!) says that you don’t need money when you’re organizing!

Yeah, OK.

The Democrats are doing so much organizing that they let the LAGOP surpass them in voter registration last month for the first time in the history of the state. If you believe that “organizing” – which gets Jamie Davis crowds in the dozens when he speaks in strip mall parking lots around Louisiana – is going to overcome Letlow’s money advantage and the deep-red political character of Louisiana, you’re an absolute fool.

And by the way, “organizing” costs money. A lot of it. When there’s no money, you end up humiliating yourself like those grifters out trying to recall Jeff Landry and Liz Murrill after collecting 2,900 signatures in the laughable attempt to recall Sid Edwards.

I don’t have anything against Jamie Davis. He might be the least impressive campaigner I’ve ever seen and I’m struggling to understand why his campaign isn’t capable of putting a shirt or jacket on him that even remotely fits, but I don’t think he’s evil like Peggy Flanagan or Abdulrahman El-Sayed are.

On the other hand, I’ve yet to hear Jamie Davis say a single word along the lines of what actual differences there are between himself and the DSA wing of the Democrat Party. In fact, he’s actually out campaigning with the DSA loons running for Congress – like the abjectly insane Lauren Jewett, who’s attempting to unseat Steve Scalise, or the equally nuts Lindsay Garcia, who’s running in the 6th District.

So tell me how Jamie Davis is any different than Bernie Sanders or AOC. Go ahead.

This doesn’t fool anybody, of course. The PPP push-poll caper has whiskers on it. It used to be that you’d break out John Anzalone to run polls like this – he got old and discredited, so now it’s PPP.

Either way, Letlow is really up a minimum of 15 points on Davis and she’ll win by 15-20. And this despite a couple of weeks of bad publicity ginned up about the Meta Hyperion project and the non-disclosure agreement that she signed along with every other politician who was briefed on it.

And yes, Julia Letlow then went and bought stock in Meta. Or at least the advisor who manages her portfolio did.

Here’s the thing: just because Meta builds a $50 billion data center in Louisiana doesn’t mean Meta’s going to make money. Buying stock in that company because it’s investing in your district is actually not all that savvy a piece of investing. The Democrats are trying to link the two and say that Julia Letlow is doing insider trading – which is a legit complaint about members of Congress, but boy, you ought to see the glass house they’re living in accusing anybody else of that sin – and telling you she’s putting one over on the public buying Meta stock.

Except there’s a problem with this narrative. Want to know what it is? Let’s ask Grok.

Hey Grok, how’s Meta’s stock doing? Is it outperforming the market since the beginning of the year?

Meta Platforms (META) stock is down year-to-date (YTD) in 2026 and has significantly underperformed the broader market (S&P 500).

As of around August 13–14, 2026:

  • META’s YTD total return (price change plus reinvested dividends) is approximately -9.7%.
  • Recent trading levels are in the mid-to-high $590s (e.g., prior close near $594.97 on August 13, with intraday prices around $594–$598 on August 14).
  • For context, the stock started the year with a closing price near $649 on the first trading day of 2026 (January 2).

It has experienced notable volatility, including a sharp drop after Q2 earnings in late July (briefly touching levels near $520–$540) followed by a partial recovery.

Comparison to the market

The S&P 500 is up roughly +13.8% to +14.7% YTD over the same period (depending on whether looking at the price index or total-return figures for the index/SPY ETF).

META has therefore lagged the market by more than 20 percentage points so far in 2026. This underperformance is notable given Meta’s large weighting in the S&P 500; it has been a drag on the index’s overall gains.

Figures can shift slightly with daily trading and exact calculation methodology (price-only vs. total return), but the directional picture is clear and consistent across multiple sources: META is lower on the year and has trailed the S&P 500 substantially.

Well, gosh. That almost sounds like Julia Letlow, or the guy handling her portfolio, is just as big a shlub as the rest of us are in playing the market. Or that she’s doing Meta a favor buying their stock when everybody else is dumping it.

The stock guys will look at that performance and call Meta stock “a dog with fleas.” They’d tell you the real scandal is that Letlow is buying that rather than defense contractor stock or NVIDIA. How could somebody who gets insider information like the Congresscritters do make such crappy trades?

But, but… muh NDA!

We’ve said this before, but the NDA stuff is one of the stupidest complaints we’ve ever seen about Louisiana politics. Anybody who thinks that multibillion-dollar corporations looking to site facilities here, and knowing the reputation of Louisiana politicians, aren’t going to lock them into NDA’s so they can’t peddle the information they get from those negotiations to competitors – or, in the classic Louisiana scumbag-politics move, tell their couyans about the project in question so they can buy land around it – is, er, “misinformed.”

Without those NDAs there will be no Meta Hyperion or SpaceX Starbase or Hyundai Steel plant. It won’t happen. Truth be told, there aren’t a lot of business deals out there which don’t involve NDAs these days. So the people having a cow over them now are really just telling you that they don’t do business deals and they don’t know how anything works.

Or that they would rather Louisiana just not have any economic development because having it happen would make Jeff Landry and Julia Letlow look good.

You don’t have to love either one of them. You probably should recognize the reality, which is that he’s the governor and she’s virtually certain to be the next senator.

And that she’s not only ahead four points on Tensas Parish Police Juror Jamie Davis, who can’t differentiate himself from the politics of Hasan Piker and Francesca Hong in any significant way.

It’s OK to see this and recognize the insult to your intelligence that it is.
