Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan has endorsed Louisiana state Rep. Michael Echols in the race for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District.

Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, announced his support for Echols as candidates compete for the newly drawn congressional seat.

“Michael Echols is a proven conservative in the Louisiana Legislature, fighting for working families, farmers, and small businesses,” Jordan said. “He’s taken on the special interests to lower prescription drug costs, secure our border, lower grocery prices, and put American families first.”

Jordan also cited Echols’ support for President Donald Trump.

“Michael stands with President Trump and against the radical left,” Jordan said. “Now, more than ever, we need leaders like Michael Echols in Washington.”

Echols said Jordan’s endorsement was meaningful because of the Ohio congressman’s reputation for challenging Washington’s political establishment.

“Jim Jordan says what he believes and then gets to work,” Echols said. “I’m honored to have his endorsement, and I’m ready to get to work with him and President Trump.”

Echols also pointed to his business background as part of what he would bring to Congress.

“I’ve spent my career building businesses, developing projects, creating jobs and solving problems,” Echols said. “Government needs more people who understand that you can’t regulate and spend your way to prosperity. You have to build things, grow businesses and create opportunity.”

“That’s what President Trump understands. It’s what we’ve worked to do in Louisiana, and it’s the perspective I want to take to Washington,” Echols added.

Echols is a Republican state representative from Monroe who was first elected to House District 14 in 2019. He works in development, construction and real estate and currently serves as chairman of the Louisiana Republican Legislative Delegation.

Louisiana’s 2026 congressional elections are being conducted under an open-primary system. The congressional primary is scheduled for Nov. 3, with a Dec. 12 election if no candidate receives a majority.
