There was a racial incident this past weekend at my Alma mater Louisiana Tech University. Someone who was white and drunk went around campus screaming the N word. The university put out a statement condemning any and all vile and vitriolic hate speech and said the student would be dealt with HARSHLY….and that’s only appropriate. I hope the kid is expelled and is kicked to the parish line.

I stated as much on Louisiana Tech’s Facebook page, and I also stated that while the university is dealing harshly  with any vile and vitriolic hate speech from students that maybe it should look at some of its own professors, who have gone on social media in the past to celebrate when prominent conservatives died. They still have their jobs. One professor cheered on the man who nearly beat Sen. Rand Paul to death. The same professor said later that conservatives should be accosted and harassed. The same professor also got on social media to encourage his students to go to Claiborne Parish to vandalize statues in front of the public courthouse. This professor has been called out several times by the national Campus Reform website.

I and others have always been told that said professor and his colleagues are protected under the auspices of “academic freedom” and can pretty much say and do as they please.

Well, when I stated what I stated on Louisiana Tech’s Facebook page, about 100 people liked my comment. So there are some REASONABLE people out there.

But a swarm of liberals descended upon me and more or less accused me of defending a racist (I did no such thing) and also said that it was repugnant of me to conflate an act of racism with a professor’s political speech in class and on social media (FYI, wishing violence and death on people is NOT political speech). There were several vile personal attacks directed my way, all of which I’m equipped to handle. I’ve dealt with this before. A lot of these people will sink to all kinds of lows dishing out personal attacks. I think I’m more shocked at the horrible reading comprehension of nearly all of these people and their clinging to a confirmation bias that doesn’t fit the facts. I was not shocked, however, when I looked at their Facebook pages and saw that a lot of them celebrated the day Charlie Kirk got killed.

Later on, I posed a question and made a statement that shut them up once and for all:

“Do you think a professor encouraging vandalism and violence and death on conservatives is LESS repugnant or EQUALLY repugnant to a student screaming the N word around campus? Personally, I think the two things are equally repugnant to one another. And the fact that none of you will answer my question and the fact that so many of you reveled on the day Charlie Kirk was assassinated tells me all I need to know about what you think needs to happen to me and millions of other people who think like me.”

And…crickets.
