BRIGGS: The Legislature Has Killed The Levee Board Lawsuit

It is with great pleasure that I announce to you that SB 469 by Sen. Allain passed off the Senate Floor for concurrence and final passage today! It is now headed to Governor Jindal’s desk for his signature.

This bill seeks to end the South Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East’s lawsuit against the 97 oil and gas companies in Louisiana. This bill also helps to create a more business-friendly atmosphere for companies that operate in the Louisiana coastal region.

The passage of this bill is a huge step in the right direction for Louisiana’s business climate. Abusive lawsuits are not the answer, and the majority of the legislative body understands this evident by their vote to prevent this suit from moving forward.

We are thankful for Sen. Allain, Sen. Adley, Rep. Robideaux and each member of the Senate and House who voted with the oil and gas industry on this bill as it made its way through the legislative process.

Below are the members of the Senate that voted in favor of the bill on behalf of the Louisiana oil and gas industry.
