SARGE: Pimping And Pandering

One of my greatest challenges was to help my son understand the difference between “intelligence” and “smarts”. “Intelligence” is the ability to learn or understand or to deal with new or trying situations. “Smarts” is the skilled use of reason and the ability to apply knowledge to manipulate one’s environment or to think abstractly as measured by objective criteria. “Smarts” indicate the ability to use “intelligence” for the betterment of the situation and those involved in it.

My son Jim seems to have developed “smarts” along with a higher level of “intelligence” inherited from his mother.

Governor Jay Nixon of Missouri has “intelligence”. He apparently never learned much about “smarts”. In a recorded interview he said there should be a “vigorous prosecution” of the officer involved. “Vigorous prosecution”? The definition of a “prosecution is: the institution and conducting of legal proceedings against someone in respect of a criminal charge. That suggests the idea of wanting justice in the manner of the old joke: “Let’s give him a fair trial and THEN hang him!”

The obvious conclusion somebody could jump to is that Governor Nixon, a Democrat, is pandering s Democrats do, to the desires and drives of the black community. The less obvious one is that he’s currying favor with attorney general Eric Holder and the Democrat hierarchy in both his state and Washington. But, more obvious than that possibility is the idea Nixon is merely stupid.

That’s the opinion I hold. He’s a stupid person willing to sell out one segment of the Missouri constituency to appear more favorable to another. That indicates a complete lack of “smarts”. Nixon is proving he’s NO conciliator. He’s acting and speaking to gin up divisiveness and create the appearance of being a “man of the people” as long as those people are of color and hold a voting majority in the locale.

Self-serving? I think so. But have you ever met a politician didn’t have an agenda. The big one is to always look to the next level of possibility in a career trajectory. For a governor, that means the Congress or the Senate, two lofty goals producing an annual income in excess of 150 Grand and the chance to retire on TWO career pension funds of over 100 thousand dollars per year.

The job of any intercessor is to insert themselves between the two belligerent parties. It’s much like a police officer in a bar-fight or a domestic disturbance. The prime directive is to be impartial and non-discriminating as you try to sort out the details. The primary effort is to cool down the moment and separate the combatants so they can fight no more. Does Nixon’s mouthing off sound like he’s trying to calm the situation and that he’s non-discriminating and impartial? Or, does it sound like he’s got an axe to grind and is assuring he looks like the “man of the hour”?

Nixon went on to say “We have a responsibility, Nixon said, “to come together and do everything we can to achieve for [Brown’s family].” Nixon added that McCulloch (the DA) and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder had an obligation “to achieve justice for Brown’s family.” Nixon further said McCulloch and Holder had an obligation “to achieve justice in the shooting death of Michael Brown must be carried out thoroughly, promptly and correctly”.                                                                      Fox News (8-20-2014)

Sounds to me like a call for a lynching. That would be because that’s what it is. The protestors in Ferguson want vengeance, not justice. Their bill of grievances against the police in Ferguson may or may not be righteous. I don’t know. I don’t live there. I’m not black. I’m Native American; and it’s from the stance of having been a cop for thirty years I know some of what happens is open for interpretation AFTER THE FACT!

The Lieutenant Governor (Republican and Nixon is a Democrat) is in obvious disagreement with Nixon. Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder said before Fox News recorders: It’s really heart breaking to see man elected to an office that high in our state government…come out with a statement like that, that does “PRE-JUDGE” the case”. (emphasis is mine)

SGT. Kevin Ahibrand, President of the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police, told Megyn Kelly: “We welcome a vigorous Investigation. Unfortunately, justice needs to go both ways. Darren’s been vilified in the press and by politicians with minimal facts being made public.”            Fox News (8-21-2014)

And that is where this mess devolves to. Investigations take time. Character assassination and vilification occur immediately. Justice is blind and carries a set of scales needing to balance with the facts of a case and the truth of the findings. Lynching’s are immediate and only satisfy those seeking revenge and satiety of their own base need for vengeance.

Race pimps like Holder and Nixon pander to those elements.

Thanks for listening.
