Here Are The 13 Heroic Legislators Who Voted Against Raising Your Insurance Taxes In The Special Session

While we may have defeated the income tax increases that John Bel Edwards and his cronies were seeking, they still got quite a bit of what they were looking for. Among the tax increases they got were two that will raise both health insurance premiums and income taxes for those who have homeowners and renters insurance.

The Legislature passed and JBE is expected to sign

  • HB 25 by State Rep. Rodney Lyons (D-Harvey) which reduces the income tax credit for the those homeowners who those who have assessments levied on insurance policies as a result of Hurricane Katrina and Rita to recapitalize the state’s insurer of last resort.
  • HB 35 by State Rep. Andy Anders (D-Vidalia) which increases the tax on HMO insurance plans. This will increase health insurance premiums, in addition the premium increases that are coming next year thanks to Obamacare. It will knock people off of private health insurance and increase state healthcare spending.

Twelve members of the state House and State Senator Neil Riser (R-Columbia) voted against both of these terrible money grabs. They are

  • Beryl Amedee
  • Rick Edmonds
  • Reid Falconer
  • Valerie Hodges
  • Dodie Horton
  • Mike Johnson
  • Sherman Mack
  • Steve Pylant
  • Dee Richard
  • Alan Seabaugh
  • Scott Simon
  • Kirk Talbot

All of them, except Richard, are Republicans.

If these 12 and Riser are your leges, you should call and thank them. If you need to find out who exactly is your state rep, go here.

It’s important to hold legislators accountable when they make bad votes. It’s also important to thank them when they vote the right way.

Thank you.
