Mike Johnson Picks Up A Big Endorsement For His Race For Congress

Well, this endorsement is in addition to Keith Gates’s endorsement of Mike Johnson. Johnson picked up the endorsement of FreedomWorks PAC. FreedomWorks is one of the tea party-aligned organizations that helped give Republicans a majority in the House in 2010.

From their release:

FreedomWorks PAC today endorsed state Rep. Mike Johnson (R-Bossier City) in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District. This is an open seat, as Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) is seeking a U.S. Senate seat.

“There isn’t anyone better to fill the big shoes being left by Rep. Fleming than Mike Johnson. As a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, Johnson showed a commitment to pro-growth economic policies by leading the charge against tax increases backed by the liberal governor of the state,” said FreedomWorks PAC Chairman Adam Brandon. “We need more conservatives in Congress to work for fiscally sound solutions and put America back on the right track. Conservatives in Louisiana’s 4th District should rally behind Mike Johnson and send him to Washington to join the ranks of other principled conservatives in the House.”

Fleming is one of the co-founders of the House Freedom Caucus and it is expected that Johnson will join it if he is elected. It will also help Johnson make the argument that he is the most conservative candidate in the race.

The endorsement from FreedomWorks is not unexpected. Johnson has proven to be one of the most conservative members of the Louisiana legislature.

Mike Johnson is one of 8 candidates running in the 4th district race. The jungle primary is on November 8.
