Another bulletin came out this afternoon from MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the facility at which Louisiana Congressman and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is being treated following the attempted assassination of two dozen Republican members of Congress by a deranged Bernie Sanders supporter last month.
Scalise had suffered an infection as a result of his wounds and was placed back in the Intensive Care Unit yesterday. But today came this announcement…
“Congressman Steve Scalise underwent surgery for the management of infection. He tolerated the procedure well. He remains in serious condition. We will provide updates as appropriate.”
The infection wasn’t an unforeseen complication. MedStar chief trauma surgeon and Scalise’s lead physician Dr. Jack Sava had said early in his hospitalization that following the multiple surgeries needed to repair damage caused by the bullet fired from James Hodgkinson’s rifle, the main risk to the congressman’s recovery would be infection. That’s exactly what has happened, the doctors were prepared for it, and when the infection flared up he was brought into surgery to deal with it.

But keep those prayers coming. It’s coming up on a month since Scalise was shot and he’s still in serious condition at the hospital, with a long rehabilitation ahead.
