BREAKING: Baton Rouge Police And ATF Disrupt Planned Attack Against Police Officers

UPDATE: We have a live blog going about the killing of Baton Rouge police.

WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge is reporting that Baton Rouge police and the ATF have broken up a suspected plot to murder Baton Rouge police officers such as in Dallas last week. The people involved were going to use the protests over the Alton Sterling shooting as cover and then shoot at police officers working them.

The ATF and Baton Rouge police stumbled upon the plot in the middle of an investigation of the theft of guns from a Cash America pawn shop in Baton Rouge last week.

From WBRZ:

Monday, federal authorities raided a home in Old South Baton Rouge. A WBRZ news crew recorded video of agents with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, sheriff’s deputies and Baton Rouge Police going through the home a block off Highland Road. The homeowner said one weapon was removed from the home, and confirmed he was questioned by authorities. The person living there said he was letting someone live at the home for free and that person was gone when the home was raided Monday shortly after 5 p.m. A source close to the investigation said the person who was staying at the home was later arrested. The suspect’s name was not immediately available.

The source, who asked not to be identified, said the authorities were working leads on a Government Street pawn shop burglary that happened after Sterling was shot and killed by police in Baton Rouge on Tuesday, July 5. Between seven and eight weapons were stolen, and one of the three people arrested after the raid told investigators during questions  thatthe guns and ammunition were stolen to be able to shoot and kill police during protests.

The raid on the home Monday evening was part of a federal search warrant, WBRZ learned.

Since Tuesday, protesters have gathered at the store in North Baton Rouge where Sterling was shot and killed, city hall in downtown, Baton Rouge Police Headquarters on Airline Highway, Government Street near downtown and Cortana Mall. In Dallas, Texas, police were shot and killed during a peaceful rally where people had gathered to protest black men being shot and killed by police recently.

As of writing, the suspects arrested yesterday have not been identified. Yesterday’s raid recovered three weapons, but it is not known if those were the stolen guns.

Several groups participating in the Alton Sterling demonstrations such as the New Black Panther Party and the African-American Defense League have called for violence against police.

Last week in Dallas, a black nationalist used the cover of a protest by the local Black Lives Matter chapter to attack the police officers working the event. 5 police officers were killed and 6 others were wounded. The shooter was armed with a Saiga semi-automatic rifle. Those rifles were banned for import into the U.S. in 2014 as a part of sanctions against the Russian arms industry over the invasion of Ukraine by Russia.

UPDATE: Sources close to the Baton Rouge police tell The Hayride that all guns have been recovered.
