Brother Of Ex-NFL Player Murdered In New Orleans

There was yet another murder in New Orleans today. The victim has been identified as Robert Smith, who is the brother of former NFL player Courtney Smith.

Smith was signed by the New York Jets after going undrafted in the 2011 NFL Draft after graduating from the University of South Alabama. However, Smith never played a game in the NFL. From there, Smith went to the Canadian Football League and eventually wound up playing for the New Orleans Voodoo in the Arena Football League.

From The Advocate:

Robert Smith, a 38-year-old man and the brother of former New York Jets wide receiver Courtney Smith, was shot and killed in New Orleans East on Monday morning, family confirmed.

Around 7:30 a.m. NOPD officers found Robert Smith lying in the front yard of a home in the 7900 block of Lamb Street. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Family members said Robert Smith was in the area visiting relatives. He lived in Lafayette but grew up in New Orleans and went to to Carver High school, family said.

Prayers for the family as once again violent crime has struck in New Orleans.
