Calipari, the coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, has perhaps an undeveloped reputation as a sports personality. But he’s working on that.
After the NCAA Tournament selection committee made Calipari’s Wildcats a #2 seed, he went on ESPN’s show to discuss his team’s chances in the tournament and the selection process with ESPN’s college basketball studio crew, plus legendary color man Dick Vitale, and for the 10 minutes that followed the coach engaged in banter which wouldn’t be out of place on a Little Italy street corner. Particularly when Calipari roasted ESPN analyst Jay Bilas for his homerism for Duke, Bilas’ alma mater, and when the coach responded to Vitale’s ribbing about what a big shot he’s become by cracking wise about the latter’s Florida mansion and demands visitors take off their shoes before entering.
Along the way Calipari offered some interesting insights into college basketball. But it was the hazing of the talking heads we thought made this clip shareworthy.
