The battle for a border wall reignites. A new bill is set to be introduced by House majority Leader Kevin McCarthy to fully fund President Trump’s long touted border wall with Mexico. The bill will include over $23 billion for the wall, along with other immigration enforcement measures. The bill is titled “Build the Wall, Enforce the Law Act.” The introduction of this bill is undoubtedly strategically timed to align with the midterms. This solidifies that Republican voters will indeed be voting for the Trump agenda in November, for the passing of this bill hinges on support in the House and the Senate.

House majority leader Kevin McCarthy “will introduce a bill this week that includes the full funding for the border wall–about $23.4 billion more than what has already gone to the wall effort–as well as several other enforcement measures that have already passed the House of Representatives.” Breitbart reports.

Security measures will included Kate’s Law, which “passed the House 257-167 last year,” as well as “No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, which passed the House last year 228-195,” and “The Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act, which passed the House last year 233-175.” In addition to these attachments, there will be “will two House resolutions on immigration that passed the House this year: one upholding and honoring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, the other admonishing illegal alien voting in a number of American cities.”

Since the bill includes all of these measures that have already had success in Congress, republicans are right to believe this new bill has some promise. Of course, this all hinges on what happens in the midterms, which is likely why all these chips are being put on the table right now to entice the voting base to get out and vote.

For anyone questioning whether or not a vote for a republican was a vote for Trump, the introduction of this bill likely puts any doubts to rest. The wall was perhaps the boldest campaign promise that differentiated Trump from other republican candidates. Many supporters of the president see the wall as a show of strength, and resonated with Trump’s border wall rhetoric during the campaign.

Whether or not the wall gets built will be a major mark on the Trump presidency. The “Build The Wall Enforce the Law Act” is the greatest move yet to act on this campaign promise. In order to get this bill passed, the 2018 midterms are a must win for the administration.
