You’re used to seeing the marshes and bayous of South Louisiana, but in the latest episode of Marsh Man Masson, we’re doing things a little bit differently.
Three decades ago, Mrs. Marsh Man and I lived for about 18 months in Lakeland, Fla., and as you might guess, I was a fanatical fisherman back then, just like I am today. The bass fishing there was absolutely incredible, and I did a ton of it.
The Lakeland paper had a weekly fishing report, and the reporter always wrote about snook fishing near Tampa, and back then, I desperately wanted to catch a snook, but I just really couldn’t afford it. I didn’t have a boat for it, and I couldn’t hire a guide.
Since that time, though, I’ve dreamed of catching a snook.
Enter Capt. C.A. Richardson.
A year or two ago, we fished together in the marshes of lower Plaquemines Parish, and I mentioned that catching a snook was on my bucket list. C.A. graciously invited me to come down and fish Crystal River, Fla., with him, and I finally got the chance to take him up on it the first week of April.
The fishing was fun, though there was one exception to the otherwise great hospitality on the river.
