We wrote in this space this week about the Senate District 31 race between conservative Rep. Alan Seabaugh and former basketball coach Mike McConathy.

Honestly, the content of their debate was so stunning in its contrast of the two candidates that we had no room to cover other crucial elements of the race. We highly recommend you read Part One linked above to get clarity on the capacity of each of the candidates to competently perform the duties of a Louisiana State Senator.

We have also run into a conundrum here in an analysis of McConathy’s campaign contributions.

These reports are chock full of Dinosaur Democrats, along with their law firms and businesses maxing out to the tune of $2,500 each to McConathy. Foster Campbell, Don Kelly, Taylor Townsend and Ed Dunahoe are chief among them. So, it makes sense the marijuana hawkers like The Apothecary Shoppe, LLC out of Lafayette and the Southeast Cannabis Policy PAC each have also maxed out at $2,500. Even the Joe Biden-endorsing Teamsters gave McConathy a $1,000 contribution.

Of special note, the Block Law firm has also maxed out to McConathy. Matthew Block is soon-to-be former Governor John Bel Edward’s right- and left-hand hatchet man.

Please keep in mind, this hit parade of trial lawyers contributing to McConathy’s campaign is ONLY a list of a list of those who have maxed out as of the filing on September 27, 2023. There are plenty of others that did not max out so, again, these are JUST a list of those who were obviously trial lawyers, along with their law firms from the personal injury, billboard lawyer world who each gave Mike McConathy $2,500:
