KOENIG: Merry Christmas, Louisiana!

Merry Christmas, Louisiana! Today, we celebrate the birth of the Savior of the World: Jesus Christ. Two millennia ago, God Almighty took on the form of a human servant and became man. Everything changed on that special day, and nothing has ever been the same since.

As important as politics may be, political action means nothing without Christ. Christ must be the center of all that we do–in politics, in public life, and in private life. A Conservative political movement without Christ means absolute nothing. The motto “Christ is King” must be front and in center in the “Louisiana First” movement. Consequently, the Christmas season is a perfect time for all “Louisiana First” patriots to re-orient ourselves toward a Christ-centered movement based on Christian morality.

Now, Louisiana has made some noteworthy strides in recent years toward a more moral society–particularly when it comes to Louisiana’s robust pro-life laws. However, our state has a long way to go in the quest for a stable, Christ-based society. Unfortunately, Louisiana has some the lowest marriage rates and highest divorce rates in the nation. Even with the option for entering a Covenant Marriage, only about 1% of new Louisiana marriages are Covenant Marriages. What’s more, Louisiana has one of the highest drug-overdose mortality rates (per-capita) in the nation.

Clearly, Louisiana has a lot of problems morally, culturally, and economically. Nevertheless, Louisiana citizens have a lot to hope for in 2024. The upcoming Jeff Landry administration and a more Conservative State Legislature are poised to pass meaningful victories and “Louisiana First” policies over the next four years.

Regardless of whatever happens politically over the next few years, Christians have a greater hope. Our hope is based on Christ’s first coming, his death, and his resurrection. Christ will come again to judge both the living and death, and we shall receive the gift of eternal salvation based on Christ’s work on the cross.

As we enter into 2024, remember the words of Psalm 33:

“The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.
11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
The plans of His heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”

-Psalm 33:10-12

The Lord Jesus Christ is in complete control of the affairs of our state and our nation. Now, that reality doesn’t mean “Louisiana First” and “America First” patriots should act passively or do nothing. Instead, we recognize Divine Providence whole we work to make Louisiana a better place for our families and for future generations.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to my fellow Louisiana patriots! God Bless, and always remember that Christ is King!
