In an amazing example of a Profile in Courage in the race for a Michigan Senate seat Democrat Haley Stevens has endorsed Republican Mike Rogers. Her reasoning was that her support of Rogers was right for her people, that El Sayed violates America’s moral compass when he continually refuses to repudiate antisemitism.

Many politicians put their finger in the wind and take the comfortable way by acting the way that the wind is blowing, not the way they know to be the right way. Examples of this abound amongst politicians who without a doubt strongly disagree with El Sayed, but who support him because it’s comfortable. Stevens refused to play along, she acted in accordance with her conscience. Did I say courage?

Her actions probably mark the end of her political career, but all Americans must be proud of her integrity. She joins a very select group of patriots that have placed country above herself.
