Nearly 10 People, Including Toddler, Shot In New Orleans Last Night, But Supposedly ‘Crime Is Down’

Over the course of just a few hours last night, eight people were shot in four separate incidents throughout the city of New Orleans.

The first of all four shootings involved an adult male who was holding a two year-old on his lap while sitting on his porch in the 1700 block of LaHarpe Street.

Suddenly, two gunmen approached the man and started shooting at him and the toddler. The child was shot in the leg and the man was hit multiple times.

After the man was taken to the hospital, he died.

Later in the night in the Gert Town area of the city, four people were involved in a shooting. One man was shot dead on the spot. Meanwhile, three other victims showed up to the local hospital and reported that they had been shot.

Then there were two different shootings in the 1400 block of Lafreniere Street and the 500 block of S. Cortez Street. The man shot in the Lafreniere incident is in critical condition in the hospital.

The man shot on S. Cortez was hit in the leg and is currently being treated at the hospital.

This long-list of late night shootings come just as New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Chief Michael Harrison has said that crime is actually down in the city of New Orleans.

Despite the murder rate being already 30-40 percent higher than last year’s murder rate, Harrison has told WWL-TV that the city is seeing a decrease in overall crime.
