Mitt Romney’s Liberty University Speech

I’m more of a cultural conservative than a social conservative, which I define as being squeamish about passing laws restricting people’s freedom to engage in behavior I would disapprove of – what we need, rather than a bunch of laws saying “thou shalt not,” is a culture which convinces and reinforces to people what are good decisions and bad decisions.

This speech, given on Saturday at Liberty University, puts Romney largely in the same camp. It’s a cultural conservative speech rather than a social conservative speech.

“Culture makes all the difference,” and the Judeo-Christian tradition the American culture is based on is the reason for the country’s greatness. Not natural resources, not military strength. That’s a message most people believe in this nation, and it’s one Romney drives home.

One of his better speeches during this campaign, and a nice contrast from the pablum the other guy throws out on a daily basis.
